SPECIAL EVENTS


Baseball Day is an
annual event at ELSS and has been so for a number of years. It is a chance
for students and teachers to enjoy a couple games of baseball and also
allows many people who have not participated in other activities throughout
the year to participate in something fun and worthwhile. Students are broken
up into Junior and Senior divisions and the champions of each division
are decided at the end of the day.

ELSS annually puts on one major dramatic
production which are open to every student in the school. Auditions take
place early in the year and from then until May, the actors practice their
lines and do their best to make the plays the best they can. Some memorable
plays from the past were "Leader Of The Pack", "The Boyfriend"
and this year's "The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940".


The Christmas Concert is an annual tradition at ELSS
that extends back to the birth of the school. Every year, the band performs
for an audience in the gym at night while during the day, students are
treated to dramatic presentations from many different classes as well as
the presentation of awards to winners of certain Christmas contests throughout
the school.


May Days is a week long string of activites
and events that allow the student body to participate in fun and often
hilarious games over their lunch hour.These games include a giant game
of Twister and some outrageous games that involve guessing what foods you
have just eaten.



Winter Carnival Week is a great way that the ELSS Student's Council has
devised to break the winter blahs. The events during the Winter Carnival
Week include the Guts Race, where students run through the field in shorts
and t-shirts, and the Christmas Parade, where students represent ELSS in
the town parade.



Dances are a year round occurance at
ELSS. From the start of the year on, dances are held in the gymnasium and
are often theme dances, like the 80's dance and the Halloween Dance. Special
Dances include the Christmas Dance, which is semi-formal, and the Video
Dance Party that has been brought to ELSS twice in the last two years.



The Lip Sync is an annual event at ELSS and generally showcases many dramatic
talents. Lip Syncs are always a favourite among the student body and offer
some great entertainment at a low price. Lip Syncs are always memorable
and many students never forget the winners of the Lip Syncs, no matter
how hard they try!

Theme Days are a constant throughout
the school year at ELSS. Many of the wacky and fun theme days that students
have experienced have been Pajama Day, Eighties Day, Dress Up Like Your
Favourite Superhero Day, and Traffic Day.



The Senior Auction is an annual event that
always draws a large crowd and is a favourite among the student body. Senior
students are paired up and sold to the student body in order to raise funds
for Student's Council. These seniors are then the slaves of their buyers
for a day later on in the week, which often proves incredibly amusing.



The OAC One-Act Plays have been an annual event at ELSS for over a decade.
These plays are written and performed by students of the OAC English class
and have often proven themselves to be a great source of entertainment
and variety. The plays performed on stage are picked by the class and are
then directed by their authors. OAC One-Act Plays are performed at the
end of each semester and have always been a success at ELSS.


The
Leader's Summit is an event that has only been around at ELSS for three
years. The Leader's Summit is organized by a group of students, all of
whom are the heads of various organizations within the school. These leader's
plan and organize a day of leadership activities and training for students
from grades 8 - 10. These effort of these student leaders is to pass on
helpful hints and techniques that will let the next generation of leaders
to do their best for their school.


The 30 Hour Famine is a cross-country event and is put on by a variety
of supporters. This event was taken up a number of years ago by students
who wished to help raise money for third-world countries. These students
fast for 30 hours and are continually kept busy by their organizers who
plan various events for the participants to participate in throughout the
30 hours.
