Roles and Responsibilities of School Advisory Council
- A School Advisory Council is an advisory group of elected parents,
educators, students, and appointed community members.
- The advisory role of the Council will be to provide ideas and opinions
to assist the principal and, where appropriate, school board trustees in
their decision making on educational issues, The advice should reflect
the views of the school community and what is best for students.
- School Advisory Councils may not be involved in issues dealing with
performance of individual staff members and legally cannot deal with any
personnel issues. Under the Freedom of Information and Privacy Act, School
Advisory Councils cannot access information on individual students and
staff.

Duties:
call School Advisory Council meetings
- propare the agenda for School Advisory Council Meetings
- ensure that the minutes of School Advisory Council meetings are recorded
and maintained
- partucipate in information and training programs
- communicate with the school principal
- ensure that there is regular communication with the school community
- consult with the Board as required.

Duties:
participate in Council meetings
- participate in information and training program
- act as a link between the School Advisory Council and the community
- encourage the participation of all parents and all people within the
school community
- arrange through the principal to visit the school regularly during
the school day.

Duties:
facilitate the establishment of the School Advisory Council and assist
in its operation
- support and promote the Council's activities
- seek imput and promote the council's activities
- act as a resource on laws, regulations, board policies, collective
agreements
- obtain and provide information required by the council to enable it
to make informed recommendations
- communicate with the chair of the Council, as required.
