There has always been a band at ELSS, as long as the school has been here. They have also been one of the best concert bands in the area.
But over the past six years the band has made tremendous leaps in sound. The have become one of the best concert bands in Ontario, winning award after award and pleasing audiences around Elliot Lake, and at the music festivals they play at throughout the province.
The band has been conducted by music teacher Mr. Jack Gordon for six years now. He has worked the band as hard as he could to create one of the best sounding concert bands. As well as working the players hard he also creates a sense of real comradery among the band members and himself. They all grow to know him and think of him as a good friend.
Band members have come and gone over the years, but every year Mr. Gordon does a great job of keeping the band sounding as good as previous years. This years band is one of the biggest bands in years. The last time the band was this big was in 1994.
The ELSS Senior Concert Band has won many awards over the years, too many to name on one page but here's the list of awards they have won since the 1993/1994 school year.
