Hi to anyone who remembers me. I'm living in Bradford now and glad I
left Elliot Lake. It was a nice town when we were kids but now it is
different.

Amanda Cunningham   21/Aug/2002:14:24:25
Who would have thought that i'd deliver my little girl in Elliot
Lake. For 9 months I kept reassuring myself living in Sudbury that
atleast my child wouldn't be an Elliot Laker, I guess it's fate! Had
Rory August 5th at St. Joe's. (By the way I don't recommend natural
childbirth out there to anyone, there are drugs for a reason).
Unfortunately I was too fast to get any. :(

Just wanted to say hello to all my friends, you know who you are. Good
luck with school, MISS YOU ALL LOTS!

Love

Hello Elliot Lakers past and present! Congrats on a great site! It is
wonderful seeing so many familiar names, a clear indication that many
of us do indeed miss the old town and it's great people. Occasionally I
return to Elliot Lake to visit my in-laws and become nostalgic for the
good times and friends from my past sigh..... Hope everyone is well
and enjoying their lives as I am. Take Care all!!

Hey Everyone.
I have family living in Elliot Lake and go there as often as I can to
visit. The amount of people that take the city for advantage is
unbelievable. I find that most of those people are teenagers. I
myself am only 16, and can understand what you mean when you say that
there is nothing there for you. But let me tell you, I've lived in
Kitchener my whole life, and I find A LOT more to do in Elliot Lake
then I do here. Not only do you guys have a beach, and fun places to
hang out, but you've got very friendly people there. Living in a city
like Kitchener, the people are rude, and don't give anyone the time of
day. They'll do anything for themselves, regardless of what the
concequences to other people are. Elliot Lake is different. With the
exception of a few rude people, Most people go around town, with smiles
on their faces. It's amazing to be able to walk down a street and have
total strangers say hello to you.
The beauty of Elliot Lake also amazes me, which

Greetings:

My wife (Christine Poulin - VFJ Grad) and I head back to Elliot Lake
often to see our family and many friends. What else can I say; the
people of Elliot Lake are very friendly and the outdoor life
spectacular. I occasionaly bring my 4 x 4 truck so I can travel some
of the backroads north of the city. The drag races in July were a huge
hit as usual. I brought one of my Plymouth Cudas' but did not race it.

We had our family reunion at Laurentian Lodge last month. An absolutely
incredible place to visit and a must for everyone to see. Bear
sighting have been up this year. So far, I've seen 9, most of them in
the Elliot Lake area. Looking forward to next year's drag races and
the opportunity to see so many friends.

I am from Mississauga, and I'm just wondering why many of you EL'ers
would even bother moving to Mississauga. Mississauga sucks, and I
would rather live in Elliot Lake.

Anyways peace out people!

Wow!Wow!Wow! What an impressive website. I have very fond memories of
growing up in Elliot and only recently wonder why so many of us wanted
to leave so badly. I think often of moving my family back as I miss so
much about it. Hello to everybody I grew up with and hope you're happy
and healthy.

Hello! Just surfed on in to see who has been checking in! Nice to see
lots of familiar names (one person who I was actually looking for
awhile back - Debbie Stewart). I hope to come home again next summer
and show my boyfriend around Northern Ontario when it is summer! (We
were there last December). I am still living and working in Finland,
going on four years now. Doing lots of travelling and living it up -
the next big adventure is the Trans-Siberain railway across Russia in a
few days time! Would love to hear from old friends!

Hello everyone,
Went to ELSS during the '80's. You know, the era of big hair,
mullets and ugly pastel shirts worn with suits. Anyway, for you
teens who are complaining about nothing to do in EL, YOU'RE
RIGHT!!!! It hasn't changed from back then either. We had a few
high school dances to go to (about 1/month), a few community
dances at the Collins Hall but all we did back then was hang out at
places such as the DQ (the present owner, Andrew Young did the
exact same thing!), the McDonald's and the occasional late night
swim at the New Beach. Mostly it was the late night parties that
held our sanity together. Shopping kind of stunk back then and I'm
sure there isn't much of an option for you guys now BUT when you
go away to university/college/whatever, you will undoubtedly miss it
for some strange reason. I've been away since 1983 for school
and now my job but everyonce in a while, I do return for a visit and I
honestly miss this little stinkin' town. We used to live at 22 R

Hi there. I just wanted to say that Elliot Lake is the best place to be
in the summer. I go down there often to visit my grandparents who
retired there for his last few years. I find it is an excellent place.
Beaches, nature walks, etc, they are all free and is only a drive away.
I LOVE Elliot Lake!!!! I think it should get more publicity. And you
are doing such a GREAT job up there. I live in Mississauga actually,
but even though the ride is 5 1/2 hrs by drive, in the end it is a
GREAT trip. Thanks, and keep up the great work!!! :)

WADE MELISSA MISSES   06/Aug/2002:15:01:03
HEY!!!! If anyone comes on here that I know Say Hi to one of my best
friends WADE REGAN...he's in EL where i onced lived a year and a half

suport his ass. I wanna say Hi to everyone else i know in EL like Julie
leveille, shawn williams, tyler and jordon hall, tyler and jessica

and bash elliot lake.....why bitch about it? Do something about it!
Either move out on your own like i did or live with it!!! I know just
as well as the rest of you that there isn't anything for teens but deal
with it the city has no money to pay for shit like that so to bad for
the rest of you. Anyways if there is anyone of my that see this and
want to reach me call my moms house she'll tell you where I am and how
to reach me. C-ya round elliot lakers

Hey everyone!! I'm living and working in Mississauga still but I
really really miss Elliot Lake. I would love to come back to live and

I will be coming back for a visit in a couple of weeks though and I'm

Wow, you don't realize how quickly time goes! I have been out of Elliot
Lake for 7 years now, and going through the web site you see so many
names of people you haven't talked to in years! It's great to see where
everyone is in life...I'm living down south doing the mom thing to 3
wonderful boys! Vince Gagne is down there too, persuing a tool and die
maker career, we wish the best to all our friends and we hope to hear
from them again someday! Take care!

Wally Blouin   30/Jul/2002:12:47:22

Rachael   28/Jul/2002:19:30:27
Hey all,

I think it is so awesome that there are so many people that visit
this site. People that I haven't heard of for a long time....Dave and
Steve Farrow! Keep up the good work E.L.
Hope everyone's doing alright. Franky, you bum, there are some
people who visit this site.
Kudos to Chris Beckerton who said that the seniors here are the
backbone of the community. Without them, we would probably be a Ghost
town again!
I'd just like to ask all the teens out there who keep asking the city
to bring more for the kids, what the hell would you like? We have
everything that we need. You have all the outdoor activities you want,
an arcade, and house parties. Everything you want is here,.....except
the shopping. I do agree however, that the city needs some more jobs.
Well the summer's almost over already!! Hopefully the rest is filled
with awesome nights with the family, and friends. School's coming
quick! Rob, I'm coming to party!!!

Ciao! Rachael

to 'some person' who posted on May 26th:
-Of course people are going to skate other places that are most
likely going to be inconvienant to others because the skate park was
already taken away... Where are they supposed to go??
- If you think that there's no crimes here, you must have had your
head in a hole since you moved here. If you know a lot of people you
CAN'T tell me that there's not always people going in and out of jail
from here. There are serious fights, rapes and shit like that but just
not often. I mean, who would have thought that we'd have a murder go
down here? Well in December '99 all those who would have agreed were
proven wrong, were they not??
- Seniors don't own this town. They just took advantage of the
chance they had to move in on it. nobody owns it therefore everyone
should be treated equally and all needs should be met, or at least
considdered.
- The cops and the opp thing??? Well, I don't really know what to

Ally   15/Jul/2002:14:29:26
I don't know how you guys can miss this place. There's a bunch of
crooked cops who'll bust yah and smoke all your dope, no good parties
anymore, no hangouts for teenagers and the movie theatre is
discusting. Seniors in this town are rude and seem to see no problem
with staring at people while they walk by. Anyonne with a slightly
Gothic appearance is definatly not welcome in this town by seniors
because they look at them like they will attack or something. Many
rude comments are heard walking down the streets from passing cars to
other pedestrians and rumours start and spread like mad... all in all:
THIS TOWN BLOWS!!!!!!

Reading these posts I've realized nothing drastic has changed in
Elliot when it comes to the youth "having their say".
However on a recent visit I have seen that the town has changed in
apperance. It looks beautiful. I do miss the clean air, and the cost
of living in EL? Wow. Now if only there were jobs that payed well.
Oh well, good luck to those who remain in Elliot.
Take care.

Rachelle Laronde   06/Jul/2002:14:17:03
Gathering from many comments posted in this guestbook, there still
isn't much to do for the youth and young families in EL. What types of
programs or activities are you interested in that the city could
(ideally) help you fund? What types of businesses are lacking in EL?
What do you believe would be successful ventures for youth and young
families living in EL? What would you pitch to investors like myself,
should you feel that this serious lack of youth-directed programs and
businesses in EL is detrimental to its growth and prosperity? Looking
forward to your thoughtful and intuitive ideas.

I realize that ever since the Uranium Mines in Elliot Lake have shut
down, that city hasn't been the same since. But I have a question, what
happened to the JR. A hockey team in the area? The Elliot Lake Vikings.
What happened to them? I can't find anything on the Internet about what
happened. I would appreciate if anyone has the answer, that they could
email me at shark_fire_781@yahoo.com Does anyone also have a picture of
the Centennial Arena? And a picture of the Home -&- Away jerseys of the
E.L. Vikings?

Thanks, Chris North

PS. I'm from North Bay and we recently lost the Centennials. It hasn't
been easy.

Frst off i would like to say no shortage of looooosers in this gust
book, i guess they dont understand the purpose of it.
As for the teenagers, i understand your problems, the town died and is
only kept alive by tourism and senior people who have moved there.
I wish i had a answer for the young people there, maybe you could all
work together to make things for yourselves to do.
It,s too bad for the economy of the city, most people will probaly have
to move some where else for a job.
Last comment i would like to make is teenagers not as a whole, but some
of them have no respect and that is the same in Ottawa.
You have a great website and keep up the good work, i hope to visit the
Lake some day.

still a wonderful web site. An outstanding job. Hope to visit your

I moved to Elliot Lake in 1982 from Niagara Falls. It was a culture
shock to say the least, but what a great place to spend High School. I
often think of my many friends, particularly the ones from the Music
dept. at ELSS. I have managed to keep in touch with some and would
love to hear from any others. Please drop me a line when you get the
chance. My email address is tonypeg@hotmail.com. Thanks for the
memories! Peggy

My husband, Kevin, and daughter, MaKenna, were "home" in Elliot Lake in
May and June 2002 for a visit. It was really wierd driving into the
place that I called home for 17 years of my life. It sure has changed
and I hope that one day it will prosper again. I hope to be home to
visit again soon.

What a great venue for looking up the 'old home town'. Although it's
been over 30 years and many miles since I left, I still answer Elliot

movie theater dont you agree ? i really agree because i dont want to be
sittin in a 4 seat room watching a 12" screen . cause thats what its
like .anyways i wanna say hi to all my friends and not the rest of the
people out there just them . i think that we should kick out all of the
seniors and get us young ones some new uhhhh.......... stuff that is
more amusing cause we really need it .
peace out elliot lakers .

Hey tout le monde dans elliot lake je veut juste l'a dire que tout les
etudiantes qui vont au VFJ suck. En exception de Celeste Berthalot.

I think this town is really crappy May be if we got some new
attractions for us younger kids then it would not be as bad.
Let kick the elderlys out then it will be better.

over 20 years now. It is a wonderful place to be ..The natural beauty
of this area is what keeps me here...It is a wonderful place to raise
children and a wonderful place to retire. I hope to retire here ..even
though our mines are gone ...the history and the love of them will
always remain here..the miners and their hard work and dedication is
what made this place what it is today...And I for one would like to
thank all those hard working men and women to make my home a wonderful
place to be. Niki P.

Why are so upset. People can write anything if they chose. We all have
our own opinion. It's not hurting anyone.
It's not hurting you in any way is it?

Hello everyone! I am from Elliot Lake, you probably know my mom,
Louise. LOL Everyone knows my mom. My dad was a fire fighter there for
25 years. My hero! And i met my fiance there, Eugene Letellier. So
to anyone thinking of visiting Elliot Lake, go for it. But don't do it
for the night life, bacause there isn't one. Do it for the scenery,
the calm waters, the beautiful sites and all the great wildlife.
If you want more information about Elliot Lake or want to drop me an

Hope to hear from you soon. Julie

We are looking for some feedback from the public on an exciting
venture we are undertaking. We are building a sort of time
machine. What we are planning to do is build a spacecraft capable of
speeds in excess of lightspeed. Travel really far out into space
(really really far) and with the powerful telescope we will bring with
us look back at earth.Acording to are calculations if we time it right
we should be able to see fantastic images of earths past!! Anyone
interested in this fantastic technoligy just leave us a comment.

R. Lemke   28/May/2002:10:33:58
I just heard that the Elliot Lake Police are going to be
disbanding and the OPP are taking over. This is great! People
shouldn't worry though, it's going to be the same officers working in
Elliot Lake who worked for the ELPD; just different uniforms. Now,
there will be better police resources to draw from, ie) K-9 Unit, TRU
Team, ERT Team, huge crime units, aircrafts, Forensic Ident Unit, and
the list goes on and on. I'm sure most of the officers are happy, now
they'll get paid better and have the chance to develop their careers
more. Officers won't feel "trapped" in Elliot Lake anymore, because if
they wish to work elsewhere in Ontario it will be easy to transfer to
another detachment. The only people that won't be happy will be a few
of the civillian employees who will lose their jobs, but they can just
as easily apply for civillian positions within the OPP.
The police management team in Elliot Lake will also change. There
will be no Cheif, Deputy Cheif, or Inspec

My friend and I started 2 go to elliot lake every summer for the past
like 2 or 3 years, and I don't see what the hell you people are
complaining about. I've lived in Timmins my hole life and its not all

timmins u got fat kids that throw crap on the ground and jizz in the
all-way!!!! Sure you get the occational old man that yells at you for
no reason..but im sure its only because hes pumped on viagra..well

Norm Therrien   27/May/2002:11:59:06
Hi all,

Visited Elliot Lake for VFJ's 25th Anniversary and must admit that it
reminded me of when we first moved there back in 1976. But with that
said it still left me with great memories. The reunion went great and
it was glad to see so many old faces.
It is sad too see so much bickering amongst the teenage and elderly
comunity as I think you can both learn to live in harmony in such a
great little town.
I am sure we who frequently visit this website are interested in what
the major issues regarding the town and perhaps to hear from some long
lost friends rather than some of the minor bickering going on.
I am sure you can all work it out.
Anyone who remembers me don't hesitate to contact me.
Keep up the good work and God Bless.

Norm Therrien

Some Person   26/May/2002:09:10:37
Hmmm... I just want to point something out. I'm a Teenager also,
And I've lived in Elliot Lake all my life too. I've been open minded
enough to realize that Seniors aren't necessarily a bad thing. Peeps
that come on here and start bashing the city cause they "don't pay
attention to teenager's needs" are startin to get really annoying.
Seniors own this city. If it weren't for them, the city would most
likely be shut down . They pay for everything. I honestly think
we're lucky. We don't have to put up with crime and all that bull. I
can walk down the street and the most i'd have to worry about is MAYBE
being hit by an old person driving a car. I won't get shot, won't
get raped.. won't get mugged.. It's greaT!! Stop blaming the city
and all taht shiat. And as for the whole skate park issue. We're
not blind... I'm not agaisnt skaters, in fac ti have a lot of friends
who are skaters. But you guys skate in some of the stupidest palces..

Hey, Being a Elliot Lake for my whole life. I have reconzied that there
is not much for a teenager to do. I will play basketball and go Atving
in the summer...Fishing,hunting,paintballing...and in the winter i
snomobile. There is not much for us to do here, all the new resources
that come into elliot lake are for the seniors, like who cares, they
will probably die in the next few months...that may be mean, but if the
city wants to keep us here to keep this city going i think that they
should create a network where there will be more jobs in the Elliot
Lake Communtity. I have broguht my Resume out many times to many
business' and have never heard a response... I am a teenager and i do
want money so that i can start a life for myself and i need a job
first... Just if the City councel would Bring more into the communtiy
for us "youth"..then maybe more of us woudl be able to stay and live
here...

Dave   24/May/2002:19:43:56
Hey,well i am writing in this guestbook because i dont want to write to
the papers.Well i am a student that has lived in Elliot Lake for almost
16 years. Dont let me get you wrong i love Elliot Lake, its My Home and
will always be considered that. But the fact that the jobs are not here
is true. Like If the City wanted teenagers to stay here maybe they
should make some new equipment or do somehting to keep us here, create
more jobs instead of building Dog Parks...like do we as teenagers
really use them no i dont think so...The old people cant even take
care of there pets....Like we had that Skatepark for like a few months
and the town took it away, we the teenagers begged for that for months
then we got it, it was not much and could not have costed that much,
but we were happy with what we had been given, Then its taken away and
you expect us not to skate somewhere else...Theres signs all over town
and you think beacuse we are "skaters" We will cause trouble around the
communit

It is so nice to see this active web site. Elliot Lake will always be
my home and I enjoy returning whenever I can. I am so sorry that the

regular town with things to do and a great place to grow up. Looking
forward to returning this July 1st weekend to get the old feeling back.

Nice to see some old names from back home..I went back to Elliot Lake
last summer for the first time in 18 years...I loved it..
I understand some of what the kids are feeling whith very little to
do, but I'm sure if they gave a little effort, they could find summer
jobs. Try embraceing the great outdoors. I know the beach and pit
party's we had were fun, and fishing, camping, hicking, skiing, etc.
arn't to bad either... But definatly stop bitching about it. Get off
your ass and do somthing about it..
I hope to be back soon, and hope to see more old freinds..

Lise Carriere   28/Apr/2002:15:45:35
My family and I have been here for 6 years. We like the city but I
find there isn't alot of opportunity for young kids growing into
adults. What would happen if only seniors were left here. No one
would work in stores. Lets face it, if it wasn't for the younger
generation where would Elliot Lake be. Maybe they should of thought of
this when they made it into retirement living. Think about it.

Chris Beckerton   27/Apr/2002:14:07:35
I'd just like to say that I do agree, Elliot Lake does need more to
help kids! This city has done nothing (with the exception of a couple
of cement ramps) for this town's youth! I find that unfortunate.
But you dumb kids who come on here and write about kicking old people's
windows and saying rude things, isn't going to help us. The truth is,
the seniors are the backbone of this community! Without them, Elliot
Lake would be at a huge economic loss! Think about what you are going
to say before you open your mouths! Also, I would like to give my
condolences to the Riddle family. Although I was not even an
aquaintance of Kate, I understand the impact she had on E.L.S.S and
around the community. And that is the reason I wrote the poem for the
program at her funeral. Poetry is an expression of life, something
Kate brought to E.L.S.S! God Bless you Kate and family!

Hi there, just visiting the old hometown site to see what is new.Would
like to wish a big happy 40th birhtday to all the girls that I went to
elementary school with Roman Ave. Since I'm getting older so are you
gals Hope all of you are well Penny Rhonda Carolyn and everyone else

The unhappy driver   26/Apr/2002:14:51:32
This is just to let any senior know that the speed limit in town is
50km/h (or 40km/h in a school zone) This means . . . seniors DO NOT
GO 20-30 km/h up Spruce or down Hillside. Also, on highway 108 . . .
anything north Hillside North is 70km/h. NOT 50!!!!!!!!!! So wake and
and smell the Tim Horton's coffee. If you want to drive slow, move
over and let the normal speed traffic through. All you're doing is
pissing people off and causing road rage.

PS. Can't see the road? Take a bus or walk

Youre a song, written by the hands of god
Don't get me wrong cause
This might sound to you a bit odd
But you own the place
Where all my thoughts go hiding
Because of you
I forgot the smart ways to lie
Because of you
I'm running out of reasons to cry
When the friends are gone
When the party's over
We will still belong to each other

I love you more than all that's on the planet
Movin' talkin' walkin' breathing
You know it's true
Oh baby it's so funny
You almost don't believe it
As every voice is hanging from the silence
Lamps are hanging from the ceiling
Like a lady tied to her manners
I'm tied up to this feeling

mr. biginthepants   24/Apr/2002:21:40:59
old people in this town are stupid, i say this because i was walking
down town and there was this huge big puddle so, i walk around it and
this really old man got out of his car and started yelling at me and my
possie, makin fun of us so i was gonna go over to his car and kick him
his old balls but instead i broke his window.

that will teach you to mess with me old man

Holy Crap I couldn;t believe Elliot Lake had a web site and then bang
c'est dans ma face. J'en vien pas anyway I noticed Tina and Dylan had
signed it and Dave Roper too hey you still owe me 65 bucks you jerk well
c'est cool. I'd like to congratulate Keri Richardson and Corey Beeson on
their new baby boy "Cameron Micheal Brian Beeson".

It's so nice to be able to look back on the small town that you grew up
in. J'avous it is a retirement city and when I lived there it did suck
but I reminice on all the great memories and all the great friends and
the not so great ones and all the mistakes you make when you're young
and I think yeah it wasn't that bad, I kinda miss good ole Elliot but
I'll be seein her soon. I'm getting sick of this Montreal pollution,
must get away from the frenchies (especially my sister she's driving me
nuts)
I miss the birds in the morning and the black flies at night and the
crisp cold air and the 30 feet of snow in my backyard in the winter oh
and May 2-4

Hi, I grew up in Elliot Lake and spent most of my life wanting to
leave. Now I miss it like crazy but it's not the same the few times
I've been back I hardly see any familiar faces. I went to college and
university from elliot lake and I now live in a small town about an
hour from London and I am a Correctional Officer in a young offender
facility. Who woulda thought!!! I was a little troublesome in high
school. Nice to see this site, it gives people a chance to reunite, its
been tough to keep track of people after the mine closures. Greetings

Good Day Eh!!

Wow, seing all the names in the guest book really brought back alot of
memories.

I was born in Elliot Lake and spent 19 years of my life there. Growing
up there seemed to be more bad times that good times. But, looking
back I can only seem to remember all the good times. I made alot of
wonderful friends and carry with me some great memories.

This may seem a little sappy but, Elliot Lake will allways hold a
special place in my heart.

I would like to hear from some of my old friends, or even people who
didn't really know me but would like to.

Best Regards,
Rob Crocetti

life and tremendous spirit. We were all blessed to have known her and
to have had her in our lives. **

Hi there Elliot Lake,
It was so great to read so many familiar names. I'm laughing out loud,
and crying all at the same time. As with so many others, my heart and
soul go out to the Riddle family. Kate will always be in my heart.
She was an absolutely amazing person.
I'm living in a small town in South Eastern ontario now, with plans to
get married in July (can you believe it?!?) I'd love to hear from
anyone from high school (or just from 'home' in general). I went to
university/college starting in 1993, and moved away for 'real' in
summer, 1999. My email is s_punch@hotmail.com -- i'd love to hear from
you!!
Take care, everyone!!
Keep Smiling!!

Nice to see some familiar names. I lived in Elliot Lake from 1978 to
1988 and moved back again from 1995 to 2000. There are not very many
people left in Elliot that I know. I still talk to a couple of people I
went to school with many years ago. I still visit the town my Mom is

Elliot Lake eh?

Well, there's been some pretty fun parties. The cops are too rough and
sneaky. Oh yah, I know your tricks. There's nothing for teenagers to
do now, except go out and party- then we get in trouble for that too.
Go figure.
There are a lot of nice people here, but unfortunatly there are a lot of
not so nice people as well.
Overall, Elliot sucks. I can't wait to get out of here.

between 1959 and 1974.

This is the first time I've been to this sight. It was nice to see so
many names I recognized. I am surprised to hear that Dave Wilby's in
Europe and not in jail! I moved from E.L. in sept. of 95 and I miss it
very much. I don't get to come home very much, as I live in Manitoba.
But hopefully I'll get to go this summer.
I was very shocked and sad to hear of Katie Riddle's death this past
year. My heart goes out to all who loved her.

I just want to say hey to Nicky Barnes, or Nicole Helen as liked to
call her! She was a friend of mine for many years. Also Christine
Bernard. I lost your number so if you see this phone my parents house
or e-mail me. There are many people I would like to hear from again,
but thats why I really want to come home this summer. Maybe I'll see
you all.

Anyway, Merry X-Mas, Happy New Year and all that jazz!
Big Hugs and Kisses.

Jamie Swan

I grew up in Elliot Lake. It was tough as a teenager and my main goal
was to leave but now I can't wait to come back. I didn't
appreciate the beauty of the town until I moved away down to the "big
city". I often brag to my friends how beautiful Elliot Lake is.
It really is a "Jewel in the Wilderness". I have had the wonderful
opportunity to bring up many of my friends throughout the years to
experience the true beauty of the town in all aspects.
Now they come up on their own accord. That definitely says something
positive about the town and the surroundings.
Thanks to everyone who has and is working hard to keep this "best kept
secret" still existing.

As so many others have said, it will always be 'home' to me too.
I am now living in Bradford, ON (Just outside of Newmarket), work in

Ohhh to be 11 years old again...standing knee deep in water looking out
at that rock at what seemed miles away. After working up the courage
and swam to that rock, the first thing i did was check if my toe's were
still there...lol...then stood proudly on that rock and looked back at
all the sunbathers on New Beach and could see them staring at me with
admiration in their eyes.(that's how i remember it anyway, hehe)...ohhh
to be 11 years old again...

get the point, a little eye opener! There are things for the seniors to

either! But there is NOTHING here for teens do to! May-be something
could be done!? Any who...just a little vent! Elliot Lake needs some

contThere are a few people in this town that try and get
organization's and what not together but they only last for a week or
two, or worse, THE CITY COUNCIL WON'T LET THEM!!! A lady came to town
and set up a joke shop and was going to put games and things in
there...I thought to myself "hey, this might actually be somewhere to
hang out" Well, sure enough I was wrong...after a few months, her store
died out, and she was gone. A guy named Guss came here and opened a sk8
board shop. It had awesome clothes and it was a hang out spot
too...Well, sure enough, after about a year, *if that long* he up and
left too! They finally opened a sk8 park downtown, people liked to hang
out there, well the older teens thought it was for them, and the
younger teens thought it was for them, no one could agree and that was
that! They didn't put up more jumps, or poles, anything! Everything
that get's done in this town for teens, slowly get's closed down, or
not finished! I didn't mean to sit here an

Hello to all of you Elliot Lake folk! I'm 15 and I've been living in
Elliot Lake since I was 5! The only good thing I have to say about this
town is that we have excellent primary school teachers! I hate the
hills, I hate the trees and I hate the additude from 'our' elders! I
was taught to treat my elders with respect! Well, If just one teen has
an additude problem or just one teen say's something rude...ALL THE
TEENS IN THIS TOWN GET LABLED! I have been reading through this whole
guest book, and all the people that are comming back to say hi from the
mine times and the 80's! All they say is "I would like to say hi to all
the people I party'd with"!!! Well, I'm happy that all you guy's did
back then was party, but news flash...Elliot Lake has changed! There is
nothing for teens to do in this town! I'm sorry that I'm the only teen
willing to up and say something. But Why can't we have more organized
dances and party's?...and things to actually look forward to? There are
a few people

Greetings Elliot Lake, Web page looks great. I lived in EL for 17 yrs
and what a beautiful place. A very serene place with lots of nature
around. My mother and inlaws still live there and we visit a couple of
times a year. I married a great guy from Elliot lake but we met in
Ottawa. What a small world. I went to ELSS from 85-89. Missed the Home
coming because of chicken pox. Now We reside in Wakefield Quebec on a
big mountain and the Gatineau River. All the best!

I had the pleasure of beginning my teaching career in Elliot Lake in
1983.I stayed there for four years, teaching at Our Lady of Fatima and
Holy Family schools. Returned to my hometown of Barrie in 1987 and boy
has this placed changed since then!! really appreciatedthe hospitality of
the people up there, particularly the staff and students of the schools
that I taught at.

All the Best;

Sean Kearney

Hi, anyone who may remember the Murphy family father Jim mother
June children Dawn,Shane,Randy and Karen. Drop me a line. We left
Elliot Lake in the early 70's moved to Montana then to New Mexico,
sometimes mining life will take you all over. We are now living in B.C.
but think of Elliot Lake and the people we knew there often. Some of
the names that come to mind at the moment are the D'amato family,
Demarais family Ed Chandler, Ed Desuome, Todd Bigelow, Faith and Hope
Venoit, Kelly Whitcomb. Mom worked at canadian tire and dad of course
was mining. We lived on Milliken rd. and all have fond memories of our
younger years in Elliot Lake.

Hope to hear from you!

Salut to all my Elliot Lake friends! How great it was to view your
website and my congratulations to everyone who designed, created, and
published this wonderful website. The world will now see the beauty of
EL. Looking at the old high school pictures brought back warm fussy
feelings and memories...like those high school dances, talent shows,
football games, etc they were so much fun. Then of course, we all met at
'the Maple' where Jimmy would always say: "You go home now, you go home
now!" I attended Notre-Dame-de-Fatima french elementary school then ELSS
with Dr. Dixon..you remember him? I enjoyed dancing so we probably seen
each other at the Colin Hall for those 'wild weekend' dances with bands
from Toronto. We lived on Oakhill so I was always at the Spruce
Beach...what a beauty! Do you remember swimming at the 'rock'...it is
still standing proud and always has a few people diving off it!
I recognized several names on the guest book and it brought back some
wonderful memories. D

I think that Elliot Lake seems like a good place to live! I lived there
for 12 years but honestly I would like to go back for the good fishing
and hunting. My mother lives there and she doesn't want to leave cause
she likes It so much.

Josie (angel) Miller   06/Sep/2001:12:17:53
I lived here in Elliot Lake for the past 10 years this September 24. The
sight seeing is beautiful and the trails are long and nice if you feel
like going for a nature walk. I personally think that my favourite place
in Elliot Lake is the look-out tower. It gives you the opportunity to
see what this town really looks like and how nice it really is.
But we could honestly need more activites here, just to hipen the town a
little more, give it a life of it's own some times...

Hi,

I lived in Elliot-Lake in the mid 50's and 60's. I hung around with
Carole Pilon, sometimes Suzanne Girard, Ginette Cavanagh, Pauline
Bourque, Francine Lafrenière, Sylvaine Gauthier and so on. I left
Elliot Lake when I was eleven years. I remember names like Thomas
Plouffe, Quinn, Pierre Farley, Jean-Charles Daviau Jean et Denis
Lapointe.I went to Notre-Dame-de-Fatima school. I went back to Elliot
Lake to visit in 69. One of these days I will go back on another visit,
I hope. I now live in Montreal and have three children.

a mill operator at Denison. I also worked at Denison Mimes in 1976. I

Enjoyed your very informative website. Well done!

E-penpal wanted: I am looking forward to retiring in Elliot Lake, even
though that is yet a few years away. (I would move to EL tomorrow
if I could find work there but since I have a good job "down here" I'd
better not tempt fate.) Just subscribed to The Standard so I can learn
about goings-on, but would like to "correspond" with a few new friends
so I can get to know real people. (I am also into writing letters the
"snail mail" way--nothing beats finding a letter in your mail box when
you come home at night!) Looking forward to hearing from you.

I'm interested in learning our your police program, Citizens on Patrol
and I've enjoyed looking at your website. BUT, I can't seem to find
ordinary information about Elliott Lake, such as, population, etc. I'm
probably looking in the wrong place as this information would be the
first thing everyone would be looking for.
I'm a Town Councillor in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, pop. approx. 8000
people but we service approx. 50,000 so we are a busy little place.
I would appreciate it if someone would copy this out and deliver this to
the police department and perhaps someone there would contact me so I
can get information about how well "citizens on patrol" is working in
your community. thank you. Bev Brown

Hello all Elliot Lakers, I spent quite a few years of my youth in the
town. Does anyone remember me? I attended the Elliot Lake Highschool
and left in 1962. Now live back in Hamburg, Germany where I was born.
Revisted the town in 1999 and saw for the first time how beautiful it
and the surroundings are (took it for granted while living there)
The principal of ELH at the time was E.H. Dixon. You can look me up in
the yearbook 1961 Class 9D. My love at the time was Louisa.
Anyone who knows me can contact me.

Peter

ElliotLake is very nice. Was just there several days ago. We are
originally from Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. now residing in the capital--
Ottawa. Oops, the wife is from Algoma Mills, but she attended Sault
College in Elliot Lake. A very nice town--oops city--Her father worked
in the mines there--and died an untimely death due to having breathed
in so much uranium dust into his lungs. It was good to see the mines
close--for health as well as for Elliot Lake's environment. Hello to
ken Boivon -- in Cornwall, Ontario if you see this site--from J-&-C in
Ottawa.

Well I lived in Elliot Lake for 14 years and loved every minute of it.
Unfortunately due to the mines closing, we had to leave. We left in
1988. I wish every day, that I could return to Elliot Lake, but there
is just no way. Maybe one day, I'll come for a visit.

Elliot Lake is still the best! :)
